Training for the whole family

Student Jon and 7 month old Rottweiler pup Mischka

Welcome to Positively Canine, LLC

Positively Canine offers classes from some of the most qualified and knowledgeable instructors in the central Oklahoma area. One is a licensed obedience judge who has presided from Wyoming to Wisconsin. Another was WCFO Judge of the Year. Another is certifed through Third Way  and a CGC evaluator.

We do not "partner" with any individual rescue organization, but instead  help all rescue or shelter dogs transition into a new home, by offering a substantial discount to ANY family who provides proof of adoption from a shelter or rescue within the past 30 days.

Our training methods are modern, humane, and geared to enhance your dog's well-being, manners, and relationship with you, his/her owner.  "Positive" training has become a catch phrase with many different meanings to different people. Our definition means that we concentrate on looking for the GOOD things a dog does which can be reinforced, instead of looking for mistakes which can be punished. We use this approach at all levels of training, and believe that depending on compulsion creates dogs who are unwilling to experiment and try new things - who know what behaviors are not safe, but not always what they should do instead. Positive Reinforcement-based training is highly effective and  creates a strong and positive bond between owner and dog which is not based on fear or avoidance.

It does not mean allowing the dog to "call the shots" but intelligently setting up a situation where the dog will choose to do what we want him/her to do, and enjoy doing so. It gives the dog choices, but we guide those choices. We use a combination of clicker training (which is used to teach a number of species very complex behaviors which could not be taught with compulsion) and gentle, compatible techniques which are designed to increase the bond, and remove the issues of fear and confusion which cause so many of the behavior problems we see in dogs. We don't just teach you to train specific behaviors, but also to understand how to motivate, communicate, and solve problems with your dog. And, we teach your dog how to learn.

Positively Canine offers a wide variety of classes including basic manners and puppy classes,  as well as Canine Good Citizen, Therapy, Rally, intro to Agility, Tricks and all levels of Obedience.  We may offer the widest variety of options in OKC, by people experienced, proven and skilled in the area they teach. We intentionally keep our classes small, so the dogs feel less crowded and stressed, and to ensure plenty of individual attention. Because of this, early enrollment is encouraged. We have private sessions available upon request to address the issues you need help with on a one-on-one basis.

Training director Sandy Case has been teaching dogs and people for over 30 years. She has successfully competed in a number of dog sports, and is an ASCA Obedience judge (all classes) Sandy has a Masters degree in Education and is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA) and an Animal Behavior College mentor trainer. She continues her education by attending trainings and seminars with some of the top dog training minds in the world.

We feel it is important that instructors and developers of our course material have above average skills and understanding of the material which they are teaching. Experience allows for a more in-depth learning experience, and assures that you will learn it right the first time. Positively Canine welcomes both students who want to participate in various dog activities and students whose primary goal is a well adjusted and well behaved pet.

In addition to group and private classes, we offer special events, practice time modules, seminars, workshops, and a media/reading library, all in a pleasant climate controlled environment for you and your dog's comfort.
